An Old Milan Apartment Now Revels in a Maximalist Décor

An Old Milan Apartment Now Revels in a Maximalist Décor – Elle Decor discovered in the heart of old Milan, an elegant old apartment that was completely revamped by the design firm Studio Peregalli. This studio spent the last two years creating one of its most exquisite interiors projects and the end result is inspiring. It’s now time for PullCast Blog to show you this amazing apartment that will inspire you!

The project was the end result of an elegant collaboration between Roberto Peregalli, who is as much philosopher as an interior designer, and the architect Laura Sartori Rimini. The project itself had a strong appeal to Peragalli and Rimini because the apartment was originally decorated in the 1950s by Renzo Mongiardino, Studio Peregalli’s own maestro. Both Peregalli and Rimini worked under the tutelage of the legendary Italian decorator until his death in 1998.

The original décor of the rooms was still intact, largely thanks to benign neglect. Unfortunately, there was a bit too much malign neglect and some parts of the apartment were heavily damaged. The new owners didn’t have a choice and had to advance with a full restoration, but they wanted to maintain the main characteristics of the house.

The designers managed to salvage every single Mongiardino detail that could be saved, from antique wallpapers to the Charles X–inspired bookcases that encircle a library designed in the turquerie style. But the disposition of the house had to be redesigned to bring this Milanese palace to the 21st Century.

Nevertheless, Studio Peregalli managed to maintain the historical and classical feel of this old apartment, namely the amazing wallpapers and paintings on the walls and some regal style furniture pieces that were part of the original décor.

The end result is an intelligent and elegant blend of the classical and modern styles of Italian design. A rich décor full of details, namely in the strong and impressive details, like the artistical wallpapers or the elegant hardware pieces.
