In a way, Sand Casting, also referred as Sand Molded Casting, is a metal casting process characterized by using sand or soft earth as the mold material. You’ll be interested to know that over 70% of all metal castings are produced via the sand casting process, so PullCast artisans aren’t the only one using it, but we assure you that they are the ones that use it better!
There are six basic steps in this process: 1: Place a casting in sand to create a mold; 2- Incorporate the casting and sand in a gating system, usually a closed box; 3 – Remove the pattern/casting; 4- Fill the mold cavity with molten metal; 5 – Allow the metal to cool; 6 – Break away the sand mold and remove the casting. It seems easy, but you need some skill to produce the best work using this technique!
